Interview with Grant Leather
Grant Leather scooped the biggest Prize in the Brisca V8s by taking the World Championship on Saturday 21st September in what was described as the most destructive race in the Sports history. There when it mattered with a level of speed and aggression Grant took take the title in superb style and proved a popular win. Grant is somewhat of a modern day David Vs Goliath underdog story and emphasises just what v8s were designed for all them years ago by Keith Barber.
Grant is a modest person a proper family man who uses his spare cash to fund his racing on a strict and tight budget but gets the best out of the equipment he uses picking and choosing his meetings wisely along the way. Racing a 16 Year Old Boswell Built (Carl Boswell of V8 and Saloon fame) Car We might add here Carl is married to Grants sister Steph making it a family affair.
When not with his V8 Grant is often found spannering for the 345 Jake Harrhy F1 Driver so combined has a wealth of experience around him.Grant started in V8s back in 2018 and has been a consistent driver regular holding blue grade but this year grant came out with a bang winning 2 Finals and making him a superstar dome bad luck and the hard going was a blip which seems Grant back down to Blue but that where history was made with Grant taking a superb win and now suddenly holds the Gold Number 1 for 12 months
"I was definitely expecting some carnage in the world final race especially on turns 3 and 4 as it is quite tight. As I was starting quite far back on row 10 I knew I could just watch it all happen in front of me and just try and get through it all. The same happened to me on both restarts… Camey got spun out and I hit her both times. First time resulted in an inside front flat tyre but the second restart I managed to get through damage free but I lost a few places. We started again but in single file and that’s when the BIG pile up happened… if I hadn’t of lost them few places I would have definitely been in the middle of it all. I seen it all happen in front of me and I just braked as hard as I could but I knew I wasn’t going to stop so I turned it left into the infield marker tyre and just missing Jon brown.
When all the cars were cleared off I was then in 5th place… that pile up took out a lot of good drivers which was perfect for me. I managed to get to the front and lead the rest of the race from the half way flag. I got to about 6 laps to go and started catching back markers what slowed me down abit and then Dan Poole started to reel me in. I knew I had good pace to keep the distance between us and I just kept my head calm and carried on to win! I knew Dan would have a last bend lunge on me… he told me at the F1 world final meeting if he’s in 2nd on the last lap he’s going all out and doing a big last bender. Never would I of thought it would have been me in 1st on the last lap of the world final. He definitely tried and fair play to him he did just that!
When I took the chequered flag I couldn’t believe I won the biggest race of the year… and still can’t believe it now. It just doesn’t feel real."
Grant will wear the covered #1 on his wing with pride and will be a great ambassador for the Hotstox formula.
