The 10th and 11th August will see the BriSCA V8 Hotstox celebrate 40 years of wheel to wheel and bumper to bumper action! An epic weekend of racing will take place at the longest serving V8 Hotstox venue as the roaring Rover V8 powered stock cars return to the track for more thrills in the hills!
Few would have thought that when the first six Hotstox took to the Long Eaton track in April 1984 that one of the most competitive stock car formulas that UK short oval racing has ever seen was being born. Early Hotstox rules allowed a basic ladder chassis construction with power provided by a Rover V8 or Ford V6. Suspension was restricted to leaf spring arrangements with strictly standard shock absorbers. Stock bodies from production road cars were to be used and although the first constructed Hotstox featured such bodies, it became clear that creating a stock bodied car was not practical as the time taken to fabricate them proved both time consuming and costly. The Hotstox have certainly come a long way to become the awesome racing machines that they are today and the weekend of 10th and 11th August will see the history of the formula being celebrated with plenty of surprises and special attractions being planned.
The bar area at Buxton is set to be taken over with a display of videos and photographs. Some very special commemorative merchandise is also set to be available at the meetings. The centre point of the celebrations may well be the planned veterans’ race, which will feature many top names from the 1980s, the decade of the formula’s origin. The Lomax family, who were instrumental in the building of the very first Hotstox cars, will also be in attendance to support the celebration of the formula.
The weekend of the 10th and 11th of August sees a rare weekend off for the drivers and fans of the Brisca Formula 1 stock cars, the older and bigger relatives of the V8 Hotstox! The two day event at Buxton will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy some V8 powered full contact action that is every bit as exciting as the awesome BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Cars. Alongside the Hotstox, the 1300 Saloon Stock Cars and Rebels racers will compete for their British championships on the 11th August.
The ORCi Stock Rods will race for their ORCi championship and the GT Rods will race for the Buxton Gold Cup. With the Stoxkarts and Bangers also making an appearance over the weekend, there really is something for everyone at this epic weekend of racing!
